My Hobbies | English Reading (A1-A2)

Welcome to today’s English reading practice! In this activity, you will read a simple text about hobbies and learn new vocabulary in context. This is perfect for A1–A2 English learners who want to improve reading skills, understand everyday topics, and learn how to talk about their free time.

After reading the text, students can also watch the video to check the pronunciation of the words and sentences. This helps students improve speaking and listening skills, too!

How to study?

1. Read the Text

Read a short story about Mark and his hobbies. The text is written in simple English and includes common activities such as cooking, exercising, reading, and gardening.

My Hobbies

Hello! My name is Mark, and I would like to talk about my hobbies. I work during the week, but in my free time, I enjoy doing many things. These hobbies help me relax and have fun after a long day of work.

One of my favorite hobbies is cooking. I love trying new recipes and cooking meals for my family. On weekends, I spend time in the kitchen making dishes from different countries. My favorite food to cook is pasta because it is easy and delicious.

I also enjoy exercising. After work, I go to the gym or for a run in the park. I like running because it helps me feel strong and healthy. I also enjoy swimming during the summer.

On quiet evenings, I like to read. I read many different types of books, but I prefer mysteries. They are exciting, and I always want to know what happens next. Reading is a good way to relax after a busy day.

Sometimes, I also watch movies. I like action movies and comedies. My favorite thing is to watch movies with my friends or family. We make popcorn, sit on the sofa, and enjoy the movie together.

On weekends, I spend time gardening. I grow flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Gardening makes me feel calm, and I enjoy seeing my plants grow. It is hard work, but it is very satisfying.

"Meals" are the food you eat, such as breakfast, lunch, or dinner. 

I cook meals for my family every evening.

5. Dishes

"Dishes" refer to different types of food you prepare. 

My favorite dish is lasagna.

6. Countries

"Countries" are places like France, Japan, or Brazil. 

I enjoy learning about food from different countries.

7. Pasta

"Pasta" is a type of food, like spaghetti or macaroni. 

We eat pasta with tomato sauce every Sunday.

8. Exercise

"Exercising" includes physical activities like running, swimming, or going to the gym. 

Exercising helps me feel good and happy.

9.  Gym

The "Gym" is a place where people exercise and work out. 

I go to the gym to lift weights and run.

10. Strong 

"Strong" means your body is powerful and healthy. 

My brother is very strong because he lifts heavy weights.

11. Healthy

Being "healthy" means being in good shape and not sick. 

Eating vegetables keeps me healthy.

12.  Mistery

"Mysteries" are stories about solving something secret or unknown. 

I love reading mystery books because they are exciting.

13. Comedy

"Comedies" are funny movies or shows. 

I like to watch comedy movies because they are funny.

14. Gardening

"Gardening" is taking care of plants and flowers. 

My hobby is gardening, and I grow roses.

15. Satisfying

"Satisfying" means making you feel happy because something is good. It is satisfying to finish a good book.
